The famous Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT’s Discord was briefly compromised earlier today. The BAYC team took to Twitter to disclose details stating that their discord was hit by a malicious tool that intended to dupe people into minting fake NFTs.
BAYC Team Confirms That Their Discord Was Briefly Hacked
The Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT team announced via Twitter that their Discord server was hit by a malicious tool earlier today. The hacker gained access to the BAYC Discord server that hosts the famous Bored Ape Yacht Club, Mutant Ape Kennel Club, and Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFTs.
According to the blockchain security & analytics website PeckShield, the hacker posted phishing links in the Mutant Ape Yacht Club channel to dupe people into minting fake NFTs.
The BAYC team clarified via Twitter alerting people to not mint NFTs for the time being. The team further highlighted that they are not hosting any April fools stealth mints and cautioned people to not fall prey to such phishing links.
Apart from BAYC, other Discord accounts notably Doodles, Shamanzs, and Nyoki were also compromised, underlining the fact that the same hacker may have used similar tools to dupe people on other discord accounts as well.
The Stolen MAYC NFT #8662 Reportedly Belonged To Taiwanese Popstar Jay Chou
The Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFT #8662 which was earlier stolen in the BAYC phishing attack, reportedly belonged to the popular Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou.
Chou took to Instagram to unveil details concerning the NFTs that he had lost today which include the above-mentioned MAYC #8662, and a Bored Ape Yacht Club ape, which was given to him as a gift by Taiwanese Singer Jeffrey Hwang. Apart from that, Chou also lost two Doodles NFTs.
